Goodwill Manifesto

From Tuesday, 14 February, every resident of Latvia has the opportunity to sign the Goodwill Manifesto at the Office of the President on working days from 9:00 to 17:00. In connection with the great public interest, it will also be possible to sign at the Office of the President this weekend, 18 and 19 February, from 9:00 to 15:00.

The Office of the President has transferred all necessary documentation to the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments so that residents can sign in all Latvian municipalities. Therefore the Office of the President invites residents who wish to sign the manifesto to contact their nearest municipality.

On Tuesday several well-known public figures also signed the manifesto - Georgs Andrejevs, Marcis Auzins, Gundars Abolins, Vjaceslavs Dombrovskis, Juris Ekmanis, Oskars Gerts, Viktors Hausmanis, Talavs Jundzis, Ivars Knets, Rihards Kozlovskis, Ivars Lacis, Baiba Rivza, Ojars Sparitis, Edmunds Sprudzs, Janis Streics, and Valdis Zatlers.

The first to sign the manifesto on 13 February were Daiga Berzina, Varis Brasla, Daina Bruniniece, Mihails Gruzdovs, Janis Jubalts, Renars Kaupers, Peteris Klava, Marina Kostenecka, Ilmars Latkovskis, Maris Mihelsons, Marija Naumova, Glebs Pantelejevs, Maris Saukans, Janis Stradins, and Ingars Vilums.

The idea for the manifesto began with theses that Juris Rubenis submitted to the President and to the Saeima Social Cohesion Commission at Riga Castle on 7 February 2012 during the discussion “Spiritual Dimension and Politics”. The President, consulting with the author of the theses and Saeima commission chairman Ilmars Latkovskis, decided to address certain well-known people in society with an invitation to sign the manifesto.
