Within the events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Riga’s Reformation, the Latvian Evangelical Alliance is organising the conference “Reformation Colours”.
The conference cycle, dedicated to reviewing and analysing the many-sided events of the Reformation, is taking place for the sixth year already, beginning in 2017, when we marked the 500th anniversary of Luther’s Reformation. Historians, theologians and public figures from Latvia and abroad have taken part in the conferences.
The Reformation of the city of Riga in 1522 was a special event in Europe’s spiritual and public life. As far as is currently known, Riga was the first city in Europe to adopt the Reformation as its main religious order.
On 12 June 2022, Riga’s Reformation reaches its 500th anniversary. These events of 1522 are closely connected with Riga St Peter’s Church. Therefore it is so special, after 500 years, to be in the same place, to give thanks and to speak about the Reformation, its meaning and its influence on the course of human history.
The conference is intended for a broad audience that would like to learn more about this historically important turning point for Latvia in the context of the European Reformation.
