May 4 - Declaration of Independence Day!

On May 4 at 10:00, an ecumenical service dedicated to the Day of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia will take place at Riga St. James Cathedral. It will also be broadcast live on Latvian Television.

The leaders of all traditional denominations will take part in the service. Short addresses about the role of God and the Church in the nation 20 years ago and today will be given by His Eminence Alexander, Metropolitan of Riga and All Latvia,
Jānis Vanags, Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia,
Pēteris Sproģis, Bishop of the Union of Baptist Churches in Latvia,
as well as Cardinal Jānis Pujats.

The Orthodox chamber choir “Blagovest”, boys from Riga Cathedral School,
and soloist Elizabete Dravniece will sing at the service.

The participants of the service will pray together for the Latvian state and its leaders, for residents who are in difficulty and sorrow, seeking work and in need, as well as for all those who are ill and struggling with addictions. They will pray that God would heal our land and people.
