“Mercy as the Church’s united task” conference

The Diaconia Center of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia, in cooperation with the Missouri Synod church charity organization “Human Care & World Relief”, invites interested people to the conference “Mercy as the Church's United Task”, which will take place in May in Daugavpils, Riga and Liepaja.

The conferences will take place
on May 18 in Daugavpils (Daugavpils Martin Luther Church, 18 Novembra Street 66),
on May 20 in Riga (Riga Luther congregation house, Tornakalna Street 3/5)
on May 23 in Liepaja (Liepaja St. Anne congregation house, E. Veidenbauma Street 10).
Conference time - from 10:00 to 17:00.

“The aim of the conference is to encourage people toward mercy, empathy and tolerance toward their neighbor, and also to help the church return to mercy as one of its main tasks,” informs Inta Putnina, head of the Diaconia Center of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. The organizers hope that the conference will also promote cooperation between state social work and church diaconia in providing help to those who currently have the hardest time.

Pastors, church leaders, church diaconia workers, social service workers and all other interested people are invited to the conference. Topics covered at the conference will include the theology of mercy, mercy in action, mercy and mission, mercy in diaconal work, domestic violence, and mercy in Church teaching. Several pastors of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church (USA) will speak on these topics at the conference (J. Pless, Herbert Mueller, Dr. Bryan Salminen, John Fale), and conference participants will have the opportunity to learn more closely about the Missouri Synod church's experience in the field of diaconia.

The conferences will present the collection of articles “Mercy as the Church's United Task”, published by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia with the support of the charity organization “Human Care & World Relief”. Each conference participant will be able to receive a copy of the publication.

Please register your participation in the conference by May 17 by writing to inta.putnina@diakonija.lv or by calling 29222604.
