Be fruitful and multiply, conference

On October 15, 2011 at 10:00, the conference "Be fruitful and multiply" will take place in the hall of the LELB Consistory. It is already the 9th interdenominational conference on the holiness and inviolability of life, organized by the movement Lutherans for Life.

The guiding theme of the conference is taken from Genesis: "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them and said to them: Be fruitful and multiply" (Gen. 1:27-28a).

The aim of the conference is to help people recognize and stand for every child as a value, to emphasize biblical teaching about the holiness of every human life and the meaning of life, and to broaden society's knowledge about the holiness of family and life. The conference plans to build cooperation among those working to protect human life from conception to natural death, to introduce the beginning of human life from biblical and medical perspectives, and to provide an opportunity for spiritual healing before and after abortion.

Gunta Irbe, leader of the Lutherans for Life movement, explains: "God created sexuality so that children would come from it. Our culture has moved away from the understanding that children are a value and a blessing to our families. In the Bible God commanded people to be fruitful and multiply - that is, not merely to renew themselves, but to multiply, to increase. We know that Latvia's demographic situation is very sad, yet we continue not to think about it, accepting the practice of abortion, which is contrary to God's commandments and will for our nation."

"Openness to life" - Baiba and Dainis Stikuts, leaders of the Marriage Encounter movement and teachers of the fertility awareness method
"We chose God's will" - testimony of Linda Prindule
"Demography and abortions in Latvia" - Ilona Bremze, association Family
"Genetics and prenatal diagnostics" - Pastor Oskars Skrodelis.

The conference will also include group work led by lecturers. The detailed conference program can be viewed HERE, and the conference poster is HERE. The organizers ask participants to register for the conference in advance so that handout materials can be prepared.

The conference will take place on October 15 from 10:00 to 15:00 in the LELB Consistory hall, Mazā Pils iela 4, Old Riga.

The conference is organized by the movement Lutherans for Life and the Catholic movement For Life!.
