Bible Festival 2011 press release

Information for the press

On August 6 of this year, Bible Festival will take place in Riga, in Dome Square. It is organized by the Latvian Evangelical Alliance in cooperation with the Christian denominations in Latvia.
The aim of the festival is to strengthen Christian unity among different denominations and churches, to invite all people of good will to common prayer for the capital city, and to encourage Bible reading in society.

The Bible Festival will include events for children, young people and adults, a Bible exhibition, and a concert with choirs and worship groups from various Christian churches. Bishops and pastors will address the guests. Bible readings and testimonies will run through the whole festival program. Events will take place throughout the day. The official opening and the culmination of the festival will take place at 16:30 in Dome Square.

Bible Festival is a spiritual event. The Latvian Evangelical Alliance and the Bible Festival organizers emphasize that the event has nothing to do with politics or economics. The aim of the festival is to invite everyone to become better acquainted with the Bible.

We invite everyone to join the Bible Festival celebration on August 6, beginning at 10:00 in Riga, in Dome Square. Let us prepare our hearts to honor God's great gift - the Bible.

The idea of Bible Festival began with a Bible reading marathon. The first Bible reading marathon took place in Israel in 1989, and already in 1990 in the USA. In Latvia, the Bible reading marathon has taken place in Ogre for seven years.
In Riga, Bible Festival is being held for the second year in a row.
