A Fairy Tale About Latvia, book
This is not an ordinary book. It has not yet been published, but it already needs to be distributed online to as many Latvians and Latvia-loyal people of other nationalities as possible. It is a small book, only three articles, yet its impact may be far-reaching. This work is unusual in another sense as well: it was written out of conviction, not for money or fame.
In Paul's first letter to the Corinthians we find one of the most beautiful texts in the Bible: "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
Ieva Nikoleta Dāboliņa's three short, remarkably concise articles express her faith in our country, hope that its future will be brighter, and above all, in inspiring words, love for our people and our state. She shows us the ideal Latvia, the Latvia each of us probably longs for in our hearts. And it is not a utopia. It is a realistically attainable goal, and in 1940 we had even gone part of the way toward such a state. It is a possible goal even in a relatively short time, perhaps over a couple of generations, which is only a moment compared with our nation's 4000-year history. We will certainly achieve it if those to whom we entrust the leadership of our country reread these three articles from time to time. But not only they should do it - each of us should. Yes, you and I as well. The book is appearing at an important moment for us, a couple of days before the election of the 11th Saeima. Again we have an opportunity to decide the fate of our nation, to move closer to our ideal or farther away from it. Ieva urges us to go vote, not to waste our vote on small parties, to vote for Latvian parties and honest people, and most importantly, before the election to carry this message to others. All of this is part of the Latvia of our dreams.
