 Artists and musicians invite you to discover your secret double

For three weeks at the Congress House, artists and health-care specialists will cooperate in a unique project to speak about and reveal the Secret Double - the problem of depression in Latvia and the world.

On 27 September the art exhibition Secret Double will open at the Congress House. Artists and musicians known in Latvia and the world are taking part in the exhibition with artworks: pianist Vestards Simkus, painters Aleksejs Naumovs, Kaspars Zarins, Vija Zarina, as well as young artists and amateur artists.

In their works the artists address a very current topic in Latvia and throughout the world - the problem of depression. For the first time in Latvia, the issue of depression will be viewed simultaneously from the perspective of artists and musicians and from the viewpoint of health-care specialists.

The aim of the project is, through artworks and conversation evenings, to address every visitor, give hope, encouragement and also practical advice for the struggle with depression.

“We want to break stereotypes, remove the veil of ignorance and prejudice, and instead educate and speak about depression and related uncomfortable questions - suicides, the relationship between depression and addictions, depression among children, women and men, depression and unemployment,” says exhibition curator Madara Lazdina.

During the exhibition, viewers will have the opportunity to attend conversation evenings with psychologists, psychotherapists and professionals from other fields.

Pianist Vestards Simkus, cellist Agate Ozolina and violinist Ilze Gagaine will address the theme in a special improvisation piece.

Taking part in the exhibition with artworks are Carol Andresen (USA), Taya Bell, Mara Dundure, Linda Freiberga, Ilze Gagaine, Kaja Hiiemaa (EST), Liga Jaunzeme, Charles David Kelley (USA), Madara Lazdina, Vita Lukstina, Madara Molnika, Aleksejs Naumovs, Agate Ozolina, Ieva Prane, Baiba Redere, Kristine Rubene, Janis Skulme, Sven Erik Stamberg (EST), Gundega Strautmane, Vestards Simkus, Vaiva Smite, Dainis Rudolfs Smits, Vika Sulca, Sanda Undzena, Ain Vares (EST), Vija Zarina, Kaspars Zarins.

The exhibition will be viewable at the Congress House from 28 September to 18 October every day except Sundays. Opening hours from 10:00 to 19:00. Entrance to the exhibition is free.
