A Caritas volunteer group has been formed

Responding to Christ's words: "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" /Mt 25:40/, a Caritas volunteer group has recently been formed at the Roman Catholic parish of St. James Cathedral in Riga.

Its members identified parish members and people facing various kinds of difficulties, from a lack of food and medicine to the simple need to spend time together and pray, trying to find an individual approach to solving each problem. At present about 60 parish members have already been identified and are receiving support.
One of the current projects now being carried out is a food donation chest placed in the church vestibule, where every person of good will is invited to donate packaged food products that do not require special storage conditions, including rice, pasta, canned goods, jam and similar products. The first parcels were distributed on May 21, and it is planned to do this every 2 to 3 weeks.

Caritas Latvija is an NGO founded by the Bishops' Conference of the Roman Catholic Church in Latvia.
