REFORMATION COLOURS on 26 October at 10:00 in Riga City Council

Within the events of “Reformation 500” and the 500th anniversary of Riga’s Reformation, the Latvian Evangelical Alliance is holding the 2nd conference “Reformation Colours” on 26 October of this year. The conference will take place in the Riga City Council meeting hall from 10:00 to 16:00.
This year’s motto is “Reformation before and after the Reformation”. We will also look at the Reformation as a process in history and society.
Undoubtedly the central event of the Reformation was Martin Luther’s church reformation in 1517, followed by political reformation. Yet the spectrum of Reformation events is much broader in both historical and social aspects. The Reformation changed the lives of states and peoples, bringing education, freedom of faith, respect for the human person and life. Why could this happen and how did it happen, what were the causes of these events and who were the main participants?
This rich and many-coloured history waits to be rediscovered. If we do not learn from history, we do not see the paths on which to go and those on which not to go. The Bible too is largely a book of history from which we have much to learn.
This year lectures at the conference will be given by Dr.hist. Kristine Ante, Dr.hist. Gundars Ceipe, Dr.theol. Ugis Sildegs, Dr.hist. Janis Silins, Andis Apsitis, Peteris Plakans and G. Lusis-Grinbergs. A panel discussion is planned at the end of the conference. The conference time is from 10:00 to 16:00.
Entrance is free.
