Get involved in Good Deeds Week!

From October 19 to 25, Latvia will mark Good Deeds Week, during which everyone is invited to help fellow people and increase the culture of helping in Latvia.

«With Good Deeds Week we want to encourage society toward good works, to show how easy, pleasant and exciting helping can be and how important it is in harder moments. The time has come for everyone to put aside selfishness and move upward by common effort!» explains Ilze Skuja, co-author of the idea and director of the charity organization palīdzēsim.lv.

During Good Deeds Week special attention will be paid to help that can be given without a large financial investment.

«There are very responsive people in Latvia who, when they learn about a need to help, do not hesitate for long. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer people have the opportunity to provide financial support. Therefore during this week we want to highlight help that can be given without large financial resources. It can be the simplest work, an obvious thing - helping an elderly person carry groceries, feeding the yard cat, helping a poor family living nearby by giving things you no longer need. It does not require much from us, but gives important support to someone else,» explains Egils Trumpe, Amigo representative and co-author of the campaign.

During Good Deeds Week people will be informed about those who need the help of others. Information will be available regularly on the Palīdzēsim.lv website (www.palidzesim.lv), on the Amigo blog (amigo.lv), and on the portal draugiem.lv.

At the end of Good Deeds Week, the organizers of the campaign together with families that have already received help will go to the Riga Children's Social Care Center to help with cleaning and renewal work.

The social services of Bauska and Iecava, which have already cooperated successfully with the charity organization palīdzēsim.lv, are also actively involved in Good Deeds Week. Marking Good Deeds Week, cleanup work will be organized on October 24 at the Bauska city preschool education institution Pasaulīte.

Other social services and charity organizations are also invited to join the idea of Good Deeds Week and organize a special good deed during this week.
