Public Announcement of Historic Document

23.06.2011.

On Tuesday, June 28th, Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe will be in Geneva, Switzerland to announce the public launch of the document "Christian Witness in a Multi-Religious World: Recommendations for Conduct". The document is the result of a 5 year cooperation between the WEA, the Pontifical Council for Inter Religious Dialogue (PCID) of the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches (WCC). The focus of "Recommendations" is on the ethics of Christian mission and evangelism and the need for every Christian, every church and every Christian organization to live and preach the gospel in accordance with the life and teachings of Jesus.

The public announcement will take place at the offices of the World Council of Churches and will include, in addition to Dr. Tunnicliffe, Cardinal Tauran, President of PCID, and Dr. Olav Tveit, General Secretary of the WCC. Also present at the launch and press conference will be senior members of the WEA from the Religious Liberty and Theological Commissions who have worked closely with the WCC and PCID on the writing and editing of the document.

It is a historic text both for its content and because this is the first time since the 16th century that the 3 main bodies representing nearly all of world Christianity jointly endorse one document and recommend it to their respective constituencies. "We are very pleased and grateful to God for all those who have worked so hard on the production of this text. The WEA fully endorses this document and recommends it for study and application to all our member alliances, churches, organizations and individuals," says Dr. Tunnicliffe.

Following the press announcement the WEA will make the document available on the WEA official website.
